Fusion of digital communication, network technologies and software methodologies necessitates new skills and theoretical background. Consequently, a large number of trained professionals are required to meet the growing job market in Information Technology sector. So, a new academic programme started at Jadavpur University in 2000. The programme became a full-fledged department in 2001.

| The Department attempts to create an environment where students and teachers can innovate and apply their creativity for solving real world problems. All faculty members are committed to research and project oriented activities.
The department is funded by DST-PURSE, TEQIP - I and TEQIP - II. The department, along with five other departments of the University, actively participates in the research and educational activities conducted by School of Mobile Computing and Communication. The center is established in 2003 under the U.G.C sponsored “University with Potential for Excellence” program. | ||
