In 2005 the Department of Economics became the 4th Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Economics in India.
Department of English
The Department of English, Jadavpur University, founded in 1956, is the only Centre of Advanced Study in its discipline, a status awarded to it in 2004 by the University Grants Commission. Its chosen field of research for the CAS Programme is 'Textuality and Culture' (second phase: 'Cultural Transactions').
Department of Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University, founded in 1964, has been recognized by UGC as a Centre of Advanced Study (PhaseI) in 1984, and a Centre of Advanced Study (PhaseIV) in 2010.
